With this concept, you break down annual objectives into 12-week cycles, allowing you to stay focused and on track. Common Mistakes To Avoid:

Not being realistic. This is a common feat that individuals have when wanting to first start. For example trying to lose 40 lbs in 12 weeks is probably overambitious. However, losing 10 lbs in 12 weeks will have better results in achieving the goal.

Avoiding the measuring process. It is imperative to measure your process. Not doing so, only causes delay for yourself and no one else. The numbers will hurt, especially if you did not take the initiative to do the tactics and stick to them. However, measurements are necessary so you do not lie to yourself on what you are or are not doing.

Doing too many goals at once. You do not have to put more pressure on yourself as you would with making annual objectives. The purpose of the 12-week year is to help you spread your tactics out within the 12 weeks and get more done by focusing on three set goals to achieve your ultimate yearly goal. So take the time to start slow and gradually progress.

        Understanding The 12-Week Year.

The 12-week year was founded by Brian Moran and Michael Pennington who constructed this concept by their own beliefs and past high end clients. Instead of using the 12-month time frame, to get everything together.  The goals were broken down into 12 weeks since people tend to try and finish their goals within the final three months. According to various studies, 40% of businesses make their profits at the end of the year because of the urgency to finish strong.

A 12-week year gets more done, since the end is steadily approaching which drives motivation to achieve goals. If you seem to find it difficult to even finish the goals you set, try this method.

How To Effectively Plan For A 12-Week Year?

Planning for the 12-week year is possible and according to Moran, using the three core principles are key to the success for the 12-week method. For instance:

        • Accountability. Most people associate accountability with poor performance, poor behavior, and undesirable outcomes. Accountability is defined by ownership rather than penalties. It is a personality attribute, a life posture, and the desire to accept responsibility for your actions. The entire nature of accountability is based on the recognition that each of us has the option to choose.
        • Commitment. Many of us fear making commitments, and when we do, we frequently break them. Commitments are strong and, in many cases, life-changing. The capacity to create and fulfill them enhances results, establishes trust, and fosters high-performance teams. To be truly great, we must improve our ability to keep our promises.
        • Greatness in the moment. It is critical that you live in the present moment, using every ounce of self-discipline to do the activities necessary to attain your objectives.

Along with the core principles. Following the five disciplines will help with achieving the goals set in the 12-week year.

        1. Having a clear vision. In order to have a clear vision, it is imperative to have specific goals. The answer lies in having a clear-headed vision to attain goals for future holds.
        2. Planning accordingly. Having the vision clear helps to focusing on good planning. The most common error is focusing entirely on the how and ignoring other difficulties, such as reality. Reality and planning outlines the goals and assists people to stay on track.
        3. Process Control. You might utilize a time block approach to scheduling, dedicating distinct hours of each day to different activities. Process control is concerned with the minor aspects of the planning process. If you miss a blocked-off time period for whatever reason, having a strategy in place to make up for it is part of process control.
        4. Measurement. Measuring your process will enable you to understand what progress you are doing good on and what you are failing at. It can be hard to see the feedback, but it is needed to execute your goals effectively.
        5.  Being intentional. Become intentional on how you spend your time. Moran specifies in the 12-Week Year there are a few block to use such as, strategic, buffer, and break blocks. Here is a further look into the time management concept:
            • Strategic block: A strategic block is a three-hour block of uninterrupted time set aside each week. During this time, you accept no phone calls, faxes, emails, visitors, or anything else. Focus your intellect and creativity to produce game-changing results. One strategic block per week is sufficient for most people.
            • Buffer block: Buffer blocks are intended to handle all unplanned and low-value activities that occur during a typical day. One 30-minute buffer block per day may be sufficient for some, while two separate one-hour blocks may be required for others. The power of buffer blocks comes from grouping together unproductive activities so that you can be more efficient in dealing with them.
            • Break blocks: The absence of free time is one of the key factors contributing to performance plateaus. An effective break is at least three hours long and is spent on activities other than work. It is time set aside from your business during normal business hours to refresh and reinvigorate your mind. When you return to work, you can engage with greater focus and energy.
